The Forever 21 Series: Part 2

how to care

Clothing purchased at Forever 21 can be tricky to take care of. I've personally found that if I wash or wear pieces too much, they can fall apart quickly. This post is to give some pointers in how to prevent this from happening.

Shirts

How to prevent stretching:

Don't wash after every wear (ew!) If you don't sweat a lot or get stains on your shirts, there's no need to wash after every wear. It will only shorten the lifespan of your shirt.

Hand wash, or if you're too lazy (like me) wash on the delicate cycle.

Dry on a flat surface. Don't hang dry or tumble dry your shirts if they are thin material, this will only help them stretch out faster.

How to keep buttons from falling off:

Reinforce buttons with your own needle and thread. This only takes about 15-20 minutes (if you're inexperienced), cheap, and totally worth it if you don't want your buttons to go missing.

Jeans

I'm a sucker for F21 jeans, even though they are so thin they are only $10! I have a pair (similar here) that has lasted me almost 2 years. However, they have faded significantly than from the time of purchase.

How to prevent color transfer and fading:

If you have dark jeans, (dark blue or black), chances are that they were over dyed to reach that shade. Wash them a few times so they fade a little, then strive to keep them at this shade. If you don't do this, they may be dangerous for light colored furniture, clothing, purses, etc. Be careful the first few times you wear them so the color doesn't transfer onto something you love.

Wash jeans inside out. Also hang them to dry, this helps with shrinking issues.

Everything

When to chuck an item:

If anything has ripped, torn, or thinned out to the point of no-repair, chuck it. Trust me- it probably doesn't look good with holes and it's time to be expired, *tear* but it's necessary.

And P.S. Forever 21 is having a 30% off sale until January 2nd! Juuust sayin'. :)
